Worship

this is amazing grace

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness

Whose love is mighty and so much stronger

The King of Glory the King above all kings

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder

Who leaves us breathless in awe and wonder

The King of Glory the King above all kings

This is amazing grace

This is unfailing love

That You would take my place

That You would bear my cross

You laid down Your life

That I would be set free

Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Who brings our chaos back into order

Who makes the orphan a son and daughter

The King of Glory the King of Glory

Who rules the nations with truth and justice

Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance

The King of Glory the King above all kings

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy worthy worthy

in christ alone

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light my strength my song

This Cornerstone this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love what depths of peace

When fears are stilled when strivings cease

My Comforter my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life's first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

crown him

It's not my life to live

It's not my song to sing

All I have is His

For all eternity

It's not my righteousness

It's not my faithfulness

All I have is His

For all eternity

Crown Him crown Him King of Glory

Crown Him crown Him Lord of All

Crown Him crown Him King of Glory

Crown Him crown Him Lord of All

It's not my war to win

It's not my weight to bear

By His mighty hand

He won the victory

It's not my blood but His

That stands in my defense

Oh what love is this

That won the victory

Crown Him

Crown Him Lord of All

Easter: From Death to Life - Mark 16:1-4; Luke 24:13-31

Intro: Only a few afternoons earlier, the few followers of Jesus witnessed his brutal death on a Roman cross. On the third day they awoke to find His body was not where they expected. Their Rabbi, their friend, the one they thought was different was dead, and His body was missing. As everyone dealt with death that Sunday morning the result was great of angst, grief and fear. This is exactly opposite of what the celebration of the resurrection would look like a few hours later.

I. The Death of Morning (Mark 16:1-4)

  1. In the darkness of the predawn, and in the darkness of despair of that first Sunday, these faithful women were heading to where they knew body of Jesus to be.
  2. It’s not uncommon to practically hold to Jesus did some good things, fed some people, taught some good truths, but let’s not take this too far.
  3. Wherever you are at, I ask that we might be like those doubters —willing to investigate.

Cross References: Luke 24:11

II. Life of Day (Luke 24:13-31)

  1. They were looking for the natural when the supernatural happened to them.
  2. You need to know, faith in Jesus Christ is not turning off your brain —but it is a faith in Christ built on the revealed truth God provides.

Cross References: Genesis 22; Psalm 22;

Takeaway: If the dark doubt of the Marys, of Salome, of Peter, and of John, had found the body they expected, we would all be doing something radically different this morning. If all we had was the belief of Cleopas and his buddy on the road to Emmaus, this would be vain and empty. Jesus went out of His way to show He is the resurrected Lord revealed in Scripture. We can believe the eyewitness testimonies of these initially dark doubters…

Consider the resurrection eyewitnesses. Mary Magdalene immediately preached the risen Christ. Matthew, Peter, Mark and John wrote of the risen Christ. Luke did exhaustive research and wrote of the risen Christ. James, the brother of Jesus initially rejected Him, but later he wrote of the risen Christ. We have the testimony of their doubt because it’s about Jesus and not about them. They believed this enough that most of the initial doubters ended up dying specifically because of their steadfast belief in the resurrection of Jesus.

Consider the place of the resurrection. Jerusalem became the center of a rapid explosion of Christ followers in the few years following the resurrection. The explosion then spread from Jerusalem, to Judea, to Samaria and to the ends of the earth —like Morro Bay! If Christ was not risen —that would not happen. If Christ has not risen, the thousands who died not recanting their faith

Consider the history of the resurrection. Roman soldiers protected the grave, yet the tomb was empty and nobody has ever laid reasonable claim to having stolen the body. The historical record shows an estimated million people or more were crucified. None are recorded to have survived it. Yet, exactly One resurrected from crucifixion.

We can know that the resurrection of Jesus is our assurance that the claims of Jesus to be able to forgive sin are true. It is the evidence that the sacrifice of the cross was accepted by God. It assures us that we can be with God. The resurrection allows us to know we have the hope of our own future resurrection at the end of days.

What would it be for you to recognize this right now? To know beyond doubt that Jesus was truly the sinless sacrifice, the Lamb of God, who was given for our sin. To know this was proven in His resurrection which we celebrate today? What would it be like to go from death to life?

living hope

How great the chasm that lay between us

How high the mountain I could not climb

In desperation I turned to heaven

And spoke Your name into the night

Then through the darkness Your loving-kindness

Tore through the shadows of my soul

The work is finished the end is written

Jesus Christ my living hope

Who could imagine so great a mercy

What heart could fathom such boundless grace

The God of ages stepped down from glory

To wear my sin and bear my shame

The cross has spoken I am forgiven

The King of kings calls me His own

Beautiful Savior I’m Yours forever

Jesus Christ my living hope

Hallelujah praise the One who set me free

Hallelujah death has lost its grip on me

You have broken every chain

There’s salvation in Your name

Jesus Christ my living hope

Then came the morning that sealed the promise

Your buried body began to breathe

Out of the silence the Roaring Lion

Declared the grave has no claim on me

Jesus Yours is the victory whoa

Jesus Christ my living hope

Oh God You are my living hope

God so loved

Come all you weary

Come all you thirsty

Come to the well that never runs dry

Drink of the water

Come and thirst no more

Come all you sinners

Come find His mercy

Come to the table He will satisfy

Taste of His goodness

Find what you're looking for

For God so loved the world that He gave us

His one and only Son to save us

Whoever believes in Him will live forever

Bring all your failures

Bring your addictions

Come lay them down at the foot of the cross

Jesus is waiting there

With open arms

For God so loved He world that He gave us

His one and only Son to save us

Whoever believes in Him will live forever

The power of hell forever defeated

Now it is well I'm walking in freedom

For God so loved God so loved the world

Praise God praise God

From whom all blessings flow

Praise Him praise Him

For the wonders of His love

For God so loved the world that He gave us

His one and only Son to save

Bring all your failures

Bring your addictions

Come lay them down at the foot of the cross

Jesus is waiting

God so loved the world
